The addition is 'tamen...carnis' and the indicative 'erant' is changed to a subjective 'essent'.
'Erant et ipsi' means And they themselves were... and 'Tamen, secundum ea quae sunt humanae carnis, essent etiam' means However, next those things, which are of human flesh, also were...
This sentence is about the Magi being lead to Baby Jesus. The addition provides the context that the Magi were humans, but still could be lead by the Spirit.
