This variant is interesting. 'Inferiores' is used earlier in the sentence, so 'superiores' is the natural contrast. However, 'sapientores' (the wiser ones) carries the meaning of being greater because they are wiser. The synonymity between wisdom and superiority shows its percieved value in this time.
