Both these words could work in the context. 'Scopusì means goal, target while 'opus' means work. This sentence says either: his goal/work is the heaping up of labor, of divine treasures, of study, and of love... The focus shifts from the goal of the action to the actual work of accomplishing that goal depending on the choice of word.
