Calandrelli writes of Secchi's account - at the Accademia Pontificia dei Nuovi Lincei - of Saturn appearing in an eclipse. He requests that Secchi read what Giovanni Battista Donati and Ercole Dembowski have written in Astronomische Nachrichten and inform him if Secchi's own explanation fits with these writings. If it does, Calandrelli asks that Secchi write it to him in brief. Calandrelli goes on to describe summarily the observations of Donati, Dembowski, the astronomers of the Pulkovo Observatory, the astronomers of the Reale Museo di fisica e storia naturale di Firenze, and himself regarding this Saturnian phenomenon. He asks for Secchi's take on these varying perspectives and concludes by mentioning a note that he has ready to send to Christian August Friedrich Peters. Calandrelli includes diagrams on the final pages - presumably to illustrate the phenomenon he discussed.
