Johann Heinrich Mädler (1794-1874) was a German astronomer who created detailed maps of the Moon, which served as the standard work in lunar research for decades. He also accurately calculated the tropical year, proposed a new leap year rule for the calendar in 1864, and coined the term "Photographie" (photography) as early as 1839.
