Pope Leo XI (2 June 1535 – 27 April 1605), born Alessandro Ottaviano de' Medici, was appointed Archbishop of Firenze on 15 January 1574 and elevated to cardinal on 12 December 1583. His reign as Pope Leone XI from 1 to 27 April 1605 was one of the shortest in history.[1]
