Philip Ernst Vegelin van Claerbergen was born in 1613 in Neustadt an der Haardt in the Palatinate (Germany), the son of Philip Ernst Vegelin van Claerbergen and Brigitta Hantes. Around 1637, Vegelin entered the service of Count Palatine Charles Louis and, in 1641, he became secretary, councilor and steward at the Frisian stadtholder Willem Frederik's court. He died in 1693 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
