Abstract | De Gregori expresses his sincere regrets upon having heard that the government is evicting the Jesuit community from their current accommodations by the end of 15 days. He notes that he and his community are extremely sympathetic to those in Rome and that he has faith that even through these trials, the Lord will not abandon them to the hands of their enemies and the Church, and those with such a just cause as theirs, will triumph. He gives Fr. Secchi his utmost thanks for that which Fr. Secchi sent him, especially for the sheet of extreme levels. Checchino Santovetti helped to take measurements and to clarify what Fr. Secchi had sent in a letter. Fr. Secchi had plans to substitute electricity in Mulinello, which greatly pleases De Gregori. De Gregori asks Fr. Secchi to let him know the count of necessary measurement instruments and when their cart will arrive in Rome because De Gregori will send something, unless it is an inopportune time for his; De Gregori leaves it to his discretion.
De Gregori notes that his meteorological work progresses well and suggests that Fr. Secchi should distance himself from the Osservatorio Romano. Lastly, he asks about the Case of evaporation and where it might end. In spite of himself, De Gregori declares that he is bound to Grottaferrata for now, but still hopes to visit Rome. He expresses again his most sincere respect, sympathy, and gratitude. |
