The manuscript listed below are particularly at risk and are in urgent need of conservation.
Please choose the manuscript you wish to adopt from the selection:

  • St. Robert Bellarmine Disputatione de controversiis.
The text and corrections by St. Robert Bellarmine

The Historical Archive of the Pontifical Gregorian University (PUG) holds manuscripts of one of its most emblematic works: the Controversies. The drafting of these manuscripts spanned many years and features numerous revisions, all in the hand of Cardinal Bellarmine (1542-1621).
Bellarmine wrote these volumes while lecturing on controversial theology at the Roman College between 1576 and 1587. Following initial, incomplete editions, the revised work was first published in its entirety by the author in Venice in 1596.
The success of this work—which represents an attempt to systematize the major theological controversies of the period—is evidenced by its numerous subsequent editions.
