FM addition: if indeed you were willing to look back freely, all the things that have happened, seeing bad things, I say, namely an act or deed of man, you would at once hear vain or shocking words.

A little confused about how both the ''libere'' and the ''respicere'' fit into the apodasis -- this was my best guess.
