New page

I am currently working on the full transcription of the Organum Mathematicum libris IX explicatum (Würzburg, 1668), in which Gaspar Schott, SJ, describes fellow Jesuit Athanasius Kircher’s original “proto calculator” and problem solving device for different disciplines, such as arithmetic, geometry, cryptography and music. This transcription work will serve as a platform for the annotated edition which, we hope, will serve as a valuable tool for scholarly research and cross-sectional study.
I received my PhD from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2002. Since 2005, I have taught History of Christianity (from its birth to Vatican Council II) and Western Civilization (early modern period) at the California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, California), and Renaissance History at San Diego State University (California, USA). I am now based in Rome, where I have taught History of Mediaeval Theology at John Cabot University. I currently teach History of the Western Church to students from the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University (Minnesota), as part of a study abroad custom program.
My research interests are focused on Early Modern Religious History, History of the Society of Jesus, with special regard to the English Mission launched by Robert Persons, SJ, and religious conformity in Elizabethan, Jacobean England, and Continental Europe, both as a literary and behavioural phenomenon.
I have published with the Jesuit Historical Institute and the Jesuit Journal, Archivum Historicum Societatis Iesu, and with the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (Toronto, Canada).
