 Un'indicazione temporale esterna al testo è il fatto che Diego de Guzmán riferì a Francisco de Borja che, visitando [[Name::Juan de Ávila]] nell'estate del 1566, vide tra i suoi documenti uno scritto per il "pastore universale", espressione che può certamente riferirsi al trattato contro le eresie.<lb/>
