Pierre Favre (1506-1546)

Pierre Favre (1506-1546) was one of the first Ignatius of Loyola's companions and the first Jesuit ordered priest. He is author of a famous Memoriale, a well-known spiritual text firstly published in 1873, after his canonization.

In 2018 an unknown manuscript of the Memoriale has been discovered within the Historical Archives of the Pontifical Gregorian University (shelf-number FC 1042). This page aims to outline the project developed after this discovery, the state of the art about the Memoriale textual tradition and the physical description of the APUG testimony.

Memoriale project

M. de Certeau Memoriale stemma codicum.

The Memoriale project aims to produce a digital edition of the manuscript FC 1042. To do this, a digital reproduction of the manuscript has been made and uploaded to GATE: it is available at this link. The next step is to produce a full transcription of this manuscript, in order to collate it with the canonical text of Favre's work, published in 1914 within the Monumenta Historica Societatis Iesu. The variants will be highlighted and in the meanwhile a critical comment will also be added to the transcription.
