Abstract: Is proposed in this paper an interpretation in the hermeneutic sense, of two engravings of the Ars Magna Lucis et Umbrae (1646, 1671) of Athanasius Kircher to follow the tradition in the way of understanding the phenomenon of light refraction and chemical mechanics technologies. Alchemical and empirical science research nourished in the seventeenth century of what we understand today as a legacy of modern science that reaches the nineteenth century to describe and understand processes such as photography.
